1950

Television advertising features actor Jerry Maren as Buster Brown and the famous tag line: “That’s my dog, Tige. He lives in a shoe. I’m Buster Brown. Look for me in there too.”

The Buster Brown Gang moves to television on Saturday mornings and helps to pioneer the weekend ritual for several generations of children. After Smilin’ Ed’s death in 1953, Andy Devine becomes show host. In 1956, Buster Brown becomes a sponsor of the “Captain Kangaroo” show.

1954

Because of the success of the “Buster Brown Gang,” shoe sales increase from $6 million in 1945 to $30 million in 1954.

1958

Buster Brown shoes become the largest-selling branded shoe in the world for children.

1969

Buster Brown partners with Walt Disney’s latest movie, “Swiss Family Robinson,” and offers a Pirate Pack free with a pair of shoes.

1979

Buster Brown markets sports shoes endorsed by Olympic track star Bruce Jenner.

1982

Brown Shoe licenses movie character E.T. for E.T. Shoes by Buster Brown, the first of a new generation of licensed shoes for the company.

1990s

Buster Brown shoes have come a long way from the shoes most adults remember wearing.

2000

New technology includes the Kids’ Fit System, a unique insole comfort system that pads and protects a child’s foot, and Toe Zone, which uses Visual Fit Technology to help determine fit.

2004

Buster Brown Shoe celebrates its 100th anniversary with a national search for the next “Pair to Remember,” kids and their dog to be featured on Buster Brown shoe boxes.
